Artifacts
Body jades
The body is covered with a silk veil with jade sewn into it. From the neck to the knees there are a large number of jade pendants, discs, plaques and beads.
Iron Weapons
The scabbard or sword cover is made from lacquered wood. Lacquer is made from the sap of a lacquer tree. It can be coloured black, brown or red and is painted on to wood like a coloured varnish. It was both colourful and practical protecting the vessel from heat, water and insects.
Bell
This bell has a straight line at the bottom of it. It plays one note when struck. Casting bells was quite a skill - they were not only beautifully decorated but they had to be tuned to the correct pitch and tone

Jade had a very important role in ancient Chinese burials. Jade objects were placed on top of and around the body. The ancient Chinese came to believe that jade had the power to protect their bodies. Help the person below find the right combination of objects for their tomb.

Ancient China's exhibit holds five categories. They are Crafts and Artisans, Geography, Time, Tombs and Ancestors, and Writing. One of the three artifacts that can be found in the exhibit is Bronze. It was used for making ritual vessels, pots, bells, mirrors and weapons.Another artifact is the tombs. They were arranged with the objects the people would need in their afterlife. The third artifact that can be found in the exhibit is Loess. It is a yellow dust that5 gets carried by the wind. My favorite activity was the Symbol Game. i found it fun and interesting because you can learn how they Chinese wrote things. Then we could compare it to English, I thought that was interesting.
Sam Ford Description: On the home screen there is a black background with a picture of a map of china. On the left side of the screen there are five links that take you to different parts of the exhibit.

Activity description: The activity I liked was called tomb object's. In the game you had to identify bronze objects and put give them to an old women.
The layout is a home page that is black with a topographical map of china in the background. There are 5 links Crafts and Artisans, Geography, Time, Tombs and Ancestors, and writing. In the exhibit you will see a Cong. This is a stone tower used to keep track of time. Another is the dagger handle, this was found in a tomb. I love the very intricate design of all the loops intertwining. The other artifact i saw was the ram head that was on top of a ritual vessel made of bronze. My favorite activity was the symbols game. It was really fun trying to find the symbol in the Chinese language that matched the picture and the word.
The layout of this exhibit is 5 specific categories. For example they are Crafts and Artisans, Geography, Time, Tombs and Ancestors, and Writing. If you click on one of these you will explore what that specific category is about on China. You can see pictures, and read about all kinds of information on that particular category. One artifact that can be found in this exhibit is the," Ram's head on Bronze Ritual Vessel." In Ancient China they used a lot of Bronze to make sculptures such as the, " Ram's head." They also used Bronze is a, "unique," way. Another artifact that was found in Ancient China was Loess, and that was, " clay dust and brown across the north of China." Lastly, a 3rd artifact found in Ancient China was the characters of the Chinese writing. They are also still used today for Chinese writing. My favorite activity was the Symbols Game, you had to try and match the Chinese character with the picture shown on the left.
The lay out of the exhibit is a map of china in the background and options for what you are looking for. One of the artifacts that you can find is a sheep head made out of bronze. Also there is a Cong made out of metal and it was used to check the time. During the shange dynasty they used a Jade bi.I like the geography changeling because I learned the places of things and people.
The layout of the exhibit is a map in a black background. One artifact is a bronze ritual vessel with a rams head decoration on it.Another is a golden decoration used in burial tombs. They believed it would allow them to live on in the afterlife. One other artifact is called a cong. It's use is unknown.I liked the dark murky egg because it's funny looking. -Alec D.
The three artifacts that I liked at the china museum was the slides because the paint was made out of real gold and silver. The second artifact that I liked at the china museum was the dragon made out of stone with china’s language on it, That was very cool. The last artifact that I like was the one where they described how the flower boat, that was very interesting.
The layout of the exhibit involves the Artisans and Craft of Ancient China, the Geography, the Time line, Tombs and Ancestors, and Ancient China's form of writing. There are Jade stones, which are pieces of Nephrite, which is a hard tough material that is green. You can find Bi's, which are flat circular discs with a central hole. They were placed on top of dead people. There was also a dagger handle made of gold. My favorite activity was the Geography game.
The layout of this exhibit has a map of china in the background and different categories of china’s history. The chinese made bronze ritual vessels in the shape of sacred animals. There was a dagger handle found in a tomb made of gold. It is very detailed with inscriptions and designs. Im guessing they used something called a cong to measure time periods. My favorite activity is the dark murky egg because it is very interesting to look at and seems almost hypnotizing.............MAURICE AMBILA
The layout of the exhibit is the homepage that is black with a map of china in the middle of that page and five links on the side of the page. The first link is crafts and artisans, geography, time, tombs and ancestors, and writing. In the first link is the rams head made of bronze ritual vessels. In the time link is the cong from neolithic period. In the link tombs and ancestors is the dagger handle that was found in a tomb. My favorite activity was the symbols game.
The Ancient China exhibit is basically a lot of ancient Chinese artwork and crafts from the Jade, Ceramic, and Bronze workshop. One artifact that can be found is a belt from the Jade workshop that was carved from only one jade pebble. Another artifact is a ceramic bowl that can be found in the Ceramic workshop. It has a regular shape that is symmetrical. A patten block was used to decorate it, then it was glazed. One last artifact from the Bronze workshop is a bronze hu or whine vessel. It was from the Eastern Zhou dynasty, when designs were more simple than they were in other dynasties.
-A summery is that the site explains about artifacts found in tombs, and other places. it shows and explains what life was like there back then. Like the pots they made, and the tools they used, and things of value to them.
-One artifact is a rams head that's bronze used as a ritual vessel, another one is a gold dagger handle found in a tomb, and lastly there was a bi, used usually to be kept when buried to bring good luck. Sometimes made of jade.
-My favorite activity was when they let me play those weird games on the site.

1) When the website comes up, there is a black background on the home page. There is also a nice topographic map of China right in the middle of it. On the top left of the page, there is a nice big title that reads “The British Museum”. Under that there are 6 choices you can choose from: Crafts and Artisans, Geography, Time, Tombs and Ancestors, Writing, and Staff Room. There is also a choice that says Ancient China, but it just takes you back to the home page. That is just about all of the home page. Now when you click on all of the choices except for staff room and ancient china, it takes you to this page that it just says the name of the choice, and a picture that represents it. When you click on the picture, then it takes you to the information about it. On the page with the information, there also are some more choices that you can click on but it depends on what choice you picked the first time.
2) A Bronze Halberd (Artifact 1) - A bronze halberd is a sword made of bronze which symbolizes power and status.
A Bronze Ding (Artifact 2) - A bronze ding is a ritual vessel that is used for heating food.
A Jade Cormorant (Artifact 3) – A jade cormorant is a fake cormorant that is built in jade.
3) My favorite activity was the tombs and ancestors challenge where you had to choose objects to put in people’s tombs based on what their status was and what they liked.
